Strides for Safe Families

Cara Bergstrom-Lynch

We would like to offer our enthusiastic appreciation to Cara for taking this on as a fundraiser!  She raised $555 for Chrysalis.  Thank you Cara.

To add to an amazing accomplishment, she also placed in her age group.  Yes, she’s a speedy one.  You rock, Cara, in so many ways.  Thank you!

I am so excited to be running again this year in the 2nd annual Loredana Nesci Memorial 5k! The race is on Sunday, October 23, 2016 and all proceeds go directly to Meriden-Wallingford Chrysalis, an organization that works tirelessly to provide safe spaces and supportive services for survivors of domestic violence. I am running in memory of Loredana, and of Alyssiah Wiley (a student at Eastern who was murdered in 2013 by a former intimate partner), and of every adult and child who has ever been affected by violence in any way.

My friends and family know that it wasn’t very long ago when the most I managed to run was to chase my two girls around the backyard. My very first race was almost 3 years ago, and it was a race to benefit survivors of domestic violence – and in memory of Alyssiah. I wasn’t even sure I would be able to complete all 3.1 miles, but since then, I have fallen in love with running and have run a many more (including 4 half marathons – who am I??) This race means so much to me.

I am taking a stand by running.

I am running because I am a survivor.

I am a survivor because of the supportive services I received myself so many years ago.
